SecretOps for Students Program not applying discount

Joel Watson Joel Watson

Our SecretOps for Students Program is available for students who have signed up for GitHub's Student Developer Pack. If you've signed up for that pack and are trying to access our SecretOps for Students Program, but the discount doesn't seem to be applying, please take the following steps:

  1. Logout of Doppler
  2. Login to Doppler via the GitHub SSO option
  3. Create a new Workplace (the discount won't apply to a pre-existing Workplace)

After taking those steps, the new Workplace should have the discount!

Why are these steps necessary?

The discount is designed for users who have never used Doppler before, so the expectation is that the user is logging into Doppler for the first time via GitHub SSO (after already signing up for GitHub's Student Developer Pack). Part of the initial sign-in flow is to create your first Workplace (which would have the discount applied in this scenario). Unfortunately, this makes it less convenient for users who have already been using Doppler.

The logout described above is required because the check to see if your GitHub account is part of their Student Developer Pack program is only performed at login, so if you'd previously signed in via GitHub SSO and signed up for the developer pack after that point, your account won't show up as being a part of that program until after it refreshes – which requires a new login.
